I have never been so captivated by a collection than I was with Gucci’s Fall 2011 collection. It is everything I LOVE about fashion and coincidentally everything about fashion that actually works for me! I have always been enamored with rich jewel tones, texture, 40′s sophistication, and the undeniable draw of 70′s boho chic fashion. This collection HAD IT ALL! Even the accessories and makeup were perfection! Fedoras, python, rich leather, crimson lips, porcelain skin- AHH! Never has clothing given me palpitations before.
Some might instantly brush off my opinion as vain, or as me putting on airs. Whatever. I appreciate the work, ART, and beauty of fashion. It’s just another form of self expression and individualism. I would never stoop to judge others on their choices. While I might not particularly care for some styles, I can appreciate the effort one puts into defining themselves. Everyone has a specific taste in clothing. Even those who say they don’t!! I don’t care if you shop only second hand or claim that such things are frivolous to you- there are things you just gravitate towards and things that make you feel comfortable and “yourself”. Admit it. Go ahead, you know it’s true.
Enough about that- ON TO THE COLLECTION!!!!
~Gucci Fall 2011~
Burgandy, Plum, Lilac, and Burnt Orange? Yes, thank you.
Turquoise, Teal, and Olive? But of course.
There are SO many ways to translate these looks and make them wearable. Before I really took the time to understand and appreciate the fashion world, I would look at these runways and only see skinny models and clothes that you would never see a “real person” wear. In one way or another, you realize that those outlandish looks land right on the racks of most department stores in a matter of months. Whether it’s the colors made popular, the shapes or cut of the garments, or the tone set by the designer.
From this collection if a gal like me with limited funds and no occasion to wear such sophisticated duds, I could just take the color scheme and choose more casual pieces from them. I could translate these colors into my makeup routine even (a nice peacock inspired eye would be amazing) I could draw from the basic shapes. Tailored pieces, flowy blouses, faux fur details, rich-toned leather etc etc etc. I could go on and on but hopefully I’ve made my point. If there is something you like- make it work for YOU! Everything can be seen from a different perspective and appreciated.
Lastly I wanted to touch on the makeup and hair from the show. OH I was thrilled to see lovely porcelain skin, feathers, and deep crimson lips. It was 40′s meets 70′s!
Inspiration is all around you….you just have to be open and receptive! Don’t let life grind you into what you think it wants- kick it in the ass and make it what YOU want it to be!
